Questions
Honest answers about privacy, pricing, and how Offload actually works — nothing we haven't shipped.
← BACK TO OFFLOADIs there an app that tracks all my documents and their expiry dates?
Yes — that's what Offload is built for. Scan an ID, passport, driving license, vehicle registration, insurance policy, or any identification document with your camera, and Pax reads the expiry date automatically and shows a live countdown to every one, sorted by what's closest to lapsing.
What's the best private, local-first document tracker?
Offload is local-first by design: your documents stay on your phone, encrypted at rest with AES-256, with no account required to start. It works fully offline — there's nothing syncing to a server and nothing to leak.
Is there a document expiry app with on-device OCR and encryption, no cloud required?
Yes — Offload scans and reads dates with on-device OCR, so a document photo never has to leave your phone to be processed, and everything is encrypted at rest with AES-256. No cloud account is required; an encrypted backup to your own Google Drive is available, but it's opt-in, never required.
How do I get reminded before my ID, passport, or registration expires?
Scan the document so Pax reads its expiry date, and Pax schedules reminders for you — 30, 14, and 7 days before, free on every plan. Offload's Individual plan lets you choose your own lead times instead. It works for IDs and other identification documents, passports, driving licenses, vehicle registrations, insurance, and anything else with a date.
Does Offload store my documents in the cloud?
No. Your documents, scans, and ID numbers are stored on your device, not on our servers. The only optional exception is backup: if you turn it on, an encrypted copy goes to your own Google Drive — nowhere else.
Is Offload free?
Yes — free to download, with a free live countdown to every document's expiry, forever. Standard reminders are free too — for documents, subscriptions, upkeep, birthdays and anniversaries. The paid Individual plan (about $3.99/month, with a free trial included) adds custom reminder schedules, vehicle tracking, more places and upkeep, and more subscriptions.
Where does my data live? Does it leave my phone?
On your phone. Offload is local-first — your documents, ID numbers, and photos are stored on your device and never sent to our servers. The only things that ever leave your phone are: purchase info (through Google Play / RevenueCat), anonymous crash reports (no document data), and any feedback you choose to send. If you turn on backup, an encrypted copy goes to your own Google Drive — nowhere else.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes. Document photos and scans are encrypted at rest on your device with AES-256. Your Google Drive backup, if you enable it, is encrypted too — it's your cloud, and only your app can read it.
Can I lock the app?
Yes. You can lock Offload with your fingerprint / face (biometric) or a PIN. It re-locks when you leave and come back.
Do you track me or show ads?
No ads, and no analytics or behavioral tracking. We use anonymous crash reporting (so we can fix bugs) with no personal data attached. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my data?
Everything is on your device, so uninstalling removes it. Inside the app you can delete any item (which also erases its scans), or wipe everything. If you used Drive backup, delete the backup from your Google Drive. There's also a data-deletion page linked from the site.
What's free?
Tracking yourself, free forever: add your documents, IDs, and licenses (one profile), scan them so Pax reads the dates, and see a live countdown to every expiry. Birthday and anniversary reminders are free as well. On-device, encrypted, app-lock protected. No account needed to start.
What do I get with Individual?
Everything in Free, plus custom reminder schedules — choose your own lead times instead of the standard 30, 14 and 7 days. Individual also unlocks your vehicles and their renewals, more places & upkeep (home/office maintenance on a cycle), and more subscriptions with your monthly spend. Add-ons cover more profiles, more vehicles, or unlimited subscriptions.
Are reminders free?
Yes. The countdown is free — open the app and you'll always see how many days are left — and so are standard reminders: notifications before a document expires or a subscription renews, for upkeep, and for birthdays and anniversaries. Individual adds custom reminder schedules, so you choose your own lead times.
How much is Individual?
A small monthly subscription — around $3.99/month in the US, with 2 months free on the annual plan. The exact price shows in your currency in Google Play.
Can I try it first?
Yes — Individual starts with a free trial. You won't be charged until the trial ends, and you can cancel anytime in Google Play before then.
How do reminders work?
For a new document, Pax schedules reminders 30, 14, and 7 days before its date — free on every plan. On Individual you choose your own lead times: set a default for everything and override it per item.
How does scanning work?
Point your camera at a document — a registration, ID, license, passport. Offload reads the expiry date and key details and files them for you, so you're not typing numbers by hand. You can always add or edit anything manually too.
What can Offload track?
Anything with a date: IDs, passports, driving licenses, vehicle registrations, insurance, subscriptions, and upkeep like filters and batteries. If it expires or renews, Pax can hold it.
What are Places and upkeep?
A Place is a home or office you attach recurring maintenance to — water filters, car batteries, servicing, anything on a cycle. Mark it done and Pax resets the clock and reminds you next time. Creating a Place and tracking upkeep is free — one place with up to five upkeep items; Individual adds more places and unlimited upkeep.
What's the To-Do widget?
A native Android home-screen widget for small tasks that don't need a document — add, reorder, and check things off right from your launcher.
Is there an iPhone / iOS version?
Yes. Offload is on the App Store for iPhone (iOS 15.5 or later). On iPhone it's free with nothing to buy: scanning, the live countdown and expiry reminders are all included. The iPhone app is in English for now.
Is there cloud sync across my devices?
Not yet. Offload is local-first by design. You can back up an encrypted copy to your own Google Drive today; automatic cross-device sync isn't shipped yet.
Is there a family / multi-user plan?
Not yet. Individual is the plan today (one person's documents). Household plans are planned but not yet available — we don't sell what you can't use.
How do I cancel? Can I get a refund?
Manage or cancel anytime in Google Play → Subscriptions; you keep Individual until the end of the period you've paid for. Refunds follow Google Play's refund policy — request them through Google Play, since Google handles the billing.
If I cancel, do I lose my documents?
No. Your documents stay on your phone. You keep the free countdown and standard reminders; you just lose custom reminder schedules and the other paid extras until you resubscribe.
Do I need an account?
No account is required to start tracking. You'd only add one for optional backup.
